D’Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz
Created in 1912, the d’Arenberg winery is today run by Chester Osborn, the fourth generation of his family to manage the property. Located in McLaren Vale with around 200 hectares of vines, the winery also produces wines made from grapes sourced from the Adelaide Hills wine region and other parts of the Fleurieu zone. Standard bearers for McLaren Vale, the winery gained cult status during the 1960’s. Specializing in Rhône varieties, they farm their vines according to organic and biodynamic principles. A true eccentric, Chester is described as the “Willy Wonka of wine”.
The d’Arenberg The Footbolt is the epitome of McLaren Vale Shiraz. The wine is named after a champion racehorse that was owned by Joseph Osborn in the early 1900’s, which he sold to finance the purchase of the d’Arenberg property. Made from 100% Shiraz, the wine was vinified in large open top fermenters and matured in a mixture of new and used French and
American oak barriques. It was bottled without fining or filtration.
